The Uruniemi Camping near Inari at the north of Finnish Lapland is located 2 Km outside of the Inari village – which makes it so isolated and really unique. The camping offers all kind of cabins with or without running water so prices vary and can fit many people. It is right on the lake so it is amazing and the views are great . There is, of course, a sauna and also a fire cabin where it is nice to sit around the fire (big enough for 10 people or so).

We called them 2 days before our arrival and even though it was out of season they agreed to open for us and were reasonably priced as well…very nice people.

Phone: 358-(0)16-671331
Directions: When you take the bus to Inari there is a bus stop right in front of it before the bus goes into the village

During the beginning of April , there is a reindeer festival going on in the small village of Inari, which is at the north of Finish Lapland (about 5 hours drive from Roveniemi). Everyone gathering their herds and there are all kind of stuff going on like reindeer races and a really unique atmosphere in general.
I wouldn’t make all the way just to attend this festival but if you are close to the town during these dates it is worth the visit.

This is probably the best activity I have experienced in this area, you get a sled, one person gets to be the driver (best part) and the other is sitting below him on the sled, they teach you a bit about how to drive it (well the dogs run but you have to use the breaks sometimes and to lean how to move your body in turns) and then you go, into the snowy woods with the dogs running like crazy. This is not a scary task and almost anyone can do it.

Prices for this are not cheap.

I know this is a really expensive experience, but this is so worth it, it is really something you wont get the chance to experience much and it is really amazing. You go on a 4 hours tour which includes lunch (not that great, actually kind of bad but this wasn’t the purpose anyway), then you break the icy water and get into the frozen sea (with some special clothing so it is not cold obviously)

The ice breaker leaves from the city of Kemi (which is an hour and a half train ride from Rovaniemi, Finland) and while there make sure you also visit the snow castle – its really awesome.

Visit the icebreaker site for more info (http://www.sampotours.com)
